Managing SCI in Acute Care: Reducing Costly Complications

August 2021 Webinar

Catastrophic cases are rare and can be difficult to manage. Many complications that arise in the acute care setting can be prevented and save workers' compensation carriers a substantial amount of money. Dr. William Scelza works exclusively with patients with spinal cord injury at Craig Hospital and has lived with paraplegia since 1988.

Dr. Scelza will provide case managers an overview of spinal cord injury prognosis and recovery, the preventative measures that can be taken in an acute care setting to reduce costly complications, rehabilitation programs and goals, and personal needs after discharge.

This course provides an excellent introduction or refresher for the case management of spinal cord injury.

After taking this 1-hour webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Review acute care complications of spinal cord injury and preventative measures
  • Understand the International Standards of Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (INSCI)
  • Put into context the prognosis and expected recovery for individuals with SCI
  • Discuss the rehabilitation programs/goals for different levels of injury
  • Discuss personal needs after discharge for home and work.
